Who is Victoria Lynn? According to her Amazon author profile: Victoria Lynn has an insatiable desire for truth, light and beauty. Traveling to destinations of beauty created by our Heavenly Father, reveling in creative pursuits that fill her with joy, or pouring her heart into words of life are some of her favorite things to do. She seeks to bring the life giving words of the Savior to a dark and broken world that desperately needs to know of His sacrifice. A writing and publishing coach, author, journalist, seamstress and creator, she loves spending time with any of her 8 siblings, exploring her native state of Michigan, and sewing gowns fit for a princess. I came across Victoria on Instagram about a year ago, and was immediately impressed with her stance on femininity, writing, and God. Her feed is gorgeously laid out and full of encouragement for her fellow sisters. And you should see some of her sewing creations! She's done everything from ball gowns to wedding dresses. Victoria also runs The Glory Writers where she encourages and coaches writers. And she also writes books. This young lady is a force to be reckoned with, an example for little girls trying to grow up into godly womanhood and young women trying to find their purpose in this chaotic, "politically correct" world. I had the immense pleasure of being a part of Victoria's street team for her newest book, Once I Knew. As part of the launch celebration, I got the privilege of a quick interview. While the focus of this street team is to spread awareness for Victoria's book, I also wanted to veer away from the same questions everyone else would be asking and use this chance to get to know Victoria, the author behind the book, So, I hope you enjoy this short little interview! 1. Me: Do you have any comp titles for your book? VL: They aren't really comps per say, but I like to say for those who felt left out of massive fantasy series like Acotar and Shadow & Bone because of the questionable material, this is a Christian, non-magical substitute. It's going to be a long series and while in no way similar to those above, it's an alternative to those who want to immerse themselves into medieval, political, royal stories. Otherwise, think Robin Hood, King Arthur, Narnia, and Lord of the Rings all got together and had a writing party. LOL! Me: I would absolutely love to be a part of that writing party! And I appreciate the idea of providing clean fantasy for those who seek it. 2. Me: How do you make time for writing among all the other projects and work that you do? Any tips for time management? VL: Honestly, monthly focuses help me a lot. Setting a different goal and focus each month. July is writing, August is sewing etc. has helped me create the ability to kind of focus on one thing at a time while juggling a lot. But also, never underestimate slow and steady. I wrote my first book with the goal of writing 15 minutes every day and I kept that up for about 3 months. You can do anything for 15 minutes. Me: As someone who struggles sometimes with time management, I can say that having a focus for the month is a great idea. 3. Me: Tell us a little bit about your other interest-fashion! When/how did you develop in interest in designing and creating? VL: It really started for me when I was about 13 and turning into a woman. I couldn't find ANYTHING to wear that was modest and fit my style. This was way before the cottage-core boom we see happening right now. It was the era of low rise jeans and spaghetti straps... all of which I hate btw. haha! I didn't like sewing at first, but I was so determined to create clothing for myself that I loved and I grew to love it. I'm told I'm a bit fearless because I also don't like following patterns, hence the bent towards designing my own patterns. Me: Your creations are gorgeous! I love the vintage vibe to the clothing you share. 4. Me: What would you say to encourage other singles out there? VL: It's okay to not be looking. I honestly get frustrated with the advice out there of "get out more, do more, go to more places" etc. And honestly, that's fine... IF God is calling you to that. But we shouldn't be doing that if the only motivation is to find a spouse. Go where God leads you, even if that means not going to every single Bible study on the planet. Don't let others tell you HOW to go about finding a spouse. Rest in the Lord and chase after what He's put in front of you. There is so much power and different purposes for us in this time of single hood. So don't get discouraged. Take delight in the now, because it won't be like this forever! Me: Very good advice! 5. Me: What are you most excited about for Realm Makers?? VL: Honestly, to connect with community I've only known online. I hope to meet a lot of people that I already know through Instagram. More than any business aspect of it, I can't wait to hug people I've only known through text and a screen for years. <3 Me: I, for one, can't wait to see you in person! (For those of you wondering, Realm Makers is an annual conference for Christian lovers of fantasy and science-fiction.) Thank you, Victoria, for taking time out to share a bit of your heart!
